What is Organizational Behavior?

Organizational Behavior is the analysis of the behavior of a collection of people working in an organization and their opinions, reactions, and working patterns. The factors considered in this analysis are concerned with concepts of organizational behavior which is categorized into individual level, team level and organizational level. Most of the concepts concerned with organizational behavior are derived from social psychology but the difference lies in application and scale. The difference between the two is compared in terms of methodology and application in which, considering methodology, it is in contrast with social psychology and considering application, it is very close to real life at times. (Thompson & Posner, 2007)
What are the characteristics of group behavior?

The characteristics of group behavior in general are as follows:
 The group shares a common leader/manager that can be the part of that group or leading the group exclusively.
 The group works towards singular objective/objectives which they work on simultaneously.
 The group is not recognized by any one of the members but as a whole group.
 Every group member has separate roles in the work they are assigned.
 The achievements and setbacks faced by the members are shared as a group and not individually.
 As a group their members having different roles coordinate with each other and get work done by helping each other.
 By collaborating with each other on the works assigned to them, they function more effectively as individuals. (M.Thenmozhi, n.d.)

Which characteristics of group behavior can you identify in this case?

In the case we notice 3 groups from different countries working together as a whole group being lead by Jose, we see characteristics like collaborating over a decision as they were asked to formulate a strategy and they come to a single conclusion and stick to it without having a difference of opinion. The other characteristic we notice is that the leaders of the subgroups do not answer for the whole group but all of the members of the group collectively answer to Jose.
If you were in Jose’s position, what would you have done differently? What would you do now?

If I was in Jose’s position I would have outlined the purpose of the combined task force which was to formulate a new design regardless of the success of the current designs as it had been advised by the council of presidents which would have set the tone of the discussion forcing the members to think about a new initiative which would be successful. For now, I would just file the memo as the work has halted and the group refuses to work anymore.
Is it possible to find an “ideal” place to work? Explain.

It is a coincidence sometimes that employees end up at a place of where he/she can coordinate with people easily and form an ideal group. But even if that is not the place it is the duty of the manager to help the member coordinate and solve disputes to make an ideal place of work.
