There has been a lot of hoopla around the tourism industry of Dubai which has come with due honor and an array of concerns regarding the future of Dubai tourism. The international hype of ‘Destination Dubai’ can be justified with statistics regarding tourists and the myriad of hyper-real experiences that Dubai encompasses. But there are certain realities that are to be encountered like the other side of Dubai which is not a part of its shining image, the city’s own unique identity and the environmental problems that Dubai has to tackle to sustain its tourism industry. (Stephenson, 2014)
This article is relevant to the research as it shines a light on the recent problems that Dubai as a tourist destination is facing and what it can do as a city to sustain that image. Although the article is centered on Dubai and not on UAE, it is critical as Dubai is a major tourist attraction in UAE. Another aspects that the article is recently published which means that the issues and statistics featured in the article are very recent that makes it vital to the research. The article also delves in the dilemmas that the people in UAE face regarding tourism and the opinion of the travelers over the world have about Dubai as a city that can help develop a unique perception for sustaining the tourism industry of UAE.
The tourism industry and the overall tourist flow in the Middle East region is a focal point of the world as it has been one of the fastest growing regions concerning many factors including tourism in recent history. The focal point here is the tourist arriving from the European continent as a whole. The area of medical tourism in UAE in relation with Europe and UAE as a likely destination for travelers from Czech Republic in the Future are critical factors to consider for UAE tourism industry for future growth. Even though Egypt leads in the number of tourists from Europe, how UAE can take the lead in that aspect is a considerable notion. (Hamarneh, 2014)
This article is a bird’s eye view on the tourism industry in the Middle East region but proves relevant to the UAE tourism as there is a large amount of focus applied on UAE tourism also. The weak factor of this article is that the destination of the tourism is very wide and at the same time, the source of tourism observed is very limited (i.e. Europe). But as Europe as a continent is a source involving a huge amount of Tourists for UAE and the Middle East as a whole, this article can provide a dynamic view considering tourism aspects for UAE.
Abu Dhabi as an Emirate of UAE is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and how the cultural treasure of Abu Dhabi aligns with the tourism industry of UAE in the future is a vital aspect for UAE. The elements of cultural tourism like its castles and forts, traditions, hospitality, festivals, traditional sports and crafts can take a center stage in enhancing the aspect of cultural tourism of Abu Dhabi being an Integral Part of UAE Tourism. As the central objective behind tourism is culture and its various facets, developing cultural sites and preserving cultural heritage can help Abu Dhabi become a tourism hub in future. (Saeid, Arifin, & Hasim, 2012)
This article is a very critical resource for the research due its alignment with the objective of research to cover cultural aspects of tourism and focus on Abu Dhabi is a tourism hub of UAE. The article delves deep into the intricate elements of the culture of Abu Dhabi taking into account the history of Abu Dhabi and the elements of unique sports and crafts in Abu Dhabi which are very unique in global perspective. Although this article is focused exclusively on Abu Dhabi, it is a crucial instrument for research of UAE tourism industry and its future.
In the endeavors of promoting tourism by UAE, many different kinds of events have been organized in the past (e.g. Shopping festivals). The number of tourists that are attracted by these festivals are related to factors like marketing related to the events and uplifting the image of UAE on an international podium. Taking survey data, the analysis regarding the perceptions of tourists that arrive during the festivals and the tourists that visit UAE other than the time of these festivals have been taken into account to conclude that festival tourism can enhance the image of UAE tourism. (Anwar & Sohail, 2003)
This article emphasizes on the significance of festivals and events on the enhancement of UAE tourism. This the scope of survey of this article is the whole UAE which is perfect for this research and the survey takers are the tourists that are visiting UAE during festivals and also outside the duration of festivals. This article is relevant to the research as it takes the perceptions of travelers from all countries into account. The downside of the article is that it the data is outdated looking at the current situation but the perceptions can still be taken into account.
As UAE government utilizes land resources for tourism purposes, the geographical information systems and remote sensing technologies have been utilized to scan the environment in the area in question to observe the possible impact to the natural resources and archeological sites. This leads to a formation of environmental guidelines and suggestions for future development of projects regarding tourism in the northern part of UAE. GIS has been perceived as a reliable and effective instrument in analyzing landmass to conclude the possibilities and challenges in developing new projects in future with reference to the area in focus. This article analyzes the geological factors affecting the future of tourism in UAE. It is critical to the research as UAE tourism also contains sites with natural beauty and archeology. The northern part of UAE is still underutilized as compared to the southern areas. This will provide ideas regarding future projects in UAE tourism and development of existing resources to uplift the area to attract more tourists. Despite the time frame in which the article was created, it contains precious geological survey data of the northern UAE area which is essential to the research.
Expo 2020 is an extremely important and a huge event to be conducted which is going to attract from people all over the globe. This expo marks the growth and advancement of UAE and Dubai in various fields. The various factors that affect the event of Expo 2020like accommodation, visa policies and quality of services are analyzed to prepare a set of recommendations to consider for the smooth execution for the future event. Hindrances that can come in the proper execution of the event are analyzed. The emergent steps are a consideration for the Dubai department of tourism with reference to the expo 2020. This article focuses on one of the most important tourism events in UAE in near future that is the Dubai Expo 2020. It takes into account the efforts which have been made by the Department of Tourism of UAE to host the event and prepare the various stages of the event. This article is very relevant to the research as vision 2020 will be a barometer for the progress of UAE tourism and will set standards for the future. If the future of UAE tourism is to be secured then significant efforts have to be put behind EXPO 2020 and this article takes the opportunities and hindrances related to the event into account.
The future of travel and tourism in the Middle East can be observed by looking into to current projects of tourism going on in the Middle East countries. As UAE is a very critical and fastest developing part of Middle East on a tourism perspective, the ongoing efforts aligned to vision 2020 can be analyzed to perceive the opportunities and possibilities for the tourism industry in UAE. The ongoing efforts aligned to the tourism industry going in all the seven emirates show the caliber of development regarding UAE. The plans and the challenges regarding overcapacity and resource management are highlighted in this study. The only drawback of this report is that the security implications have not been covered in necessary detail.
